Orval LaVerne Hakes, father of Pastor Dennis Hakes of Walnut Park Baptist Church in Muscatine, went home to be with his Lord on April 24, 2012. Funeral services were held Monday, April 30. He was a member of the Willow Creek Baptist Church in West Des Moines.
Orval was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, his father and mother and his sister, Opal Jean Smith. He will be lovingly missed by his three children, Sandy Christian and her husband Jerry of Story City, Becky Parker and her husband John of Adel and Denny Hakes and his wife Tonya of Muscatine. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, first cousin and friend, Wilma Dunn, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
