On March 17, retired missionary, Gerrit Buining, suffered a stroke. It was an “evolving” event that, after 48 hours or so, left him severely weakened on his right side. He is able to talk and his mind is unchanged; however, he is unable to walk unassisted and has lost the use of his right hand. He is currently in the care of his daughter in St. Louis and showing improvement.

“Gerry” and his late wife Margrit served as missionaries to the Jews with Baptist Mid-Missions in the Des Moines area.

For the time being, the following address may be used for correspondence:

Dear friends,

We have had so much fun this spring! God has given us so many blessings! We got the new kitchen cabinets for the church put in and we had a shower to celebrate and stock the cupboards. Everyone was quite generous in supplying "kitchen stuff" so we can share our blessings and serve others. It was great fun and just in time to host the April pastors’ fellowship meeting as well as serve breakfast on Easter morning.

Brad built a new baptismal from a 550 gallon water tank for a fraction of the cost of buying one ready-made. What is a greater blessing is that two were baptized in it less than a week later! Please pray for Kim and her daughter Kayla, for continued spiritual growth and that God would use them mightily. Several family members and friends came to the baptismal service, heard the gospel, and need to choose Jesus. Please pray for souls to be saved.

The Easter sunrise service was well attended with 22 early risers as we gave God the glory for the empty cross and the empty tomb. A great time of fellowship followed as our family served omelets and hash browns for breakfast, and we continued in His Word for Sunday School and morning worship.

A church has taken us on for support and another gave us a monetary gift to help with Marie’s medical expenses. We are truly grateful and thank you for being part of this ministry! We also appreciate all of you who pray for us! We are looking forward to seeing some of you in Grimes, IA, at the state meetings.

Chris
will be leaving for Germany May 10th for his six-week sampling of overseas missionary life. Please pray for his safety, integrity, and his testimony.

After a few days last week of being a little lightheaded because of low blood pressure, Marie is doing well and enjoying her early garden. The boys have added lawn mowing to their schedule for the summer and are looking forward to taking schoolwork off the list.

My flesh and my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.
Psalm 73:26-28

For His Glory,

In preparation for surgery for a fall, it was discovered that Brother Payne had some significant heart issues, which caused the black out and fall.  He has had triple bypass heart surgery, three steel plates inserted in his face and continues on dialysis.  Pastor Payne is in the ICU at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.  Please continue to pray for the Paynes, their family and their many helpers.
