Pastor John Murray Moves to New Ministry
When Lynna and I came to Ames and campus ministry almost twelve years ago, God moved us clearly and quickly. He provided income, housing, mission status, and the beginnings of support. We have had many bumps in the road, but God has ALWAYS been faithful. Campus ministry has been a phenomenal time of ministry, learning, changing, and personal growth. We have met friends who will remain our friends for life and even after.
Primarily as a result of a loss of support, Lynna and I began looking for a more vocational ministry. We were contacted by First Baptist Church of Hawthorne, Nevada. We talked for several months, went out for a week to candidate, and received a unanimous call. February 3, we will load everything onto a truck and move to the desert.
Hawthorne is a frontier town of almost 3,500 in the high desert (4300 feet). It is a fairly self-sufficient community, although trips will be made to the bigger cities of Fallon, Reno, and the Lake Tahoe area. Mountains surround Hawthorne on every side. Churches in Hawthorne are very small, so it appears there are great opportunities. Lynna and I view the change as a great adventure and anticipate God working in Hawthorne as He has in Walnut, Urbandale, Belmond, and Ames.
