Urbandale Baptist Church Honors the Dayton's as They Retire
December 30, 2012, was a special day for Urbandale Baptist Church as its members honored Pastor Richard and Mrs. Gloria Dayton with an all-day retirement celebration. The Dayton's have ministered at UBC for over 27 years, so it was a bittersweet time for many.
In addition to the church family, many former members, area pastors, IARBC representative Joe Hayes, and relatives attended the celebration. The morning began with the regular Sunday school time and morning service. Pastor Dayton delivered a special message where he reflected on his years in ministry and on the things he has learned by God’s grace during those years. Following the morning service, the church held a catered dinner for members and guests.
Then, at 2 p.m., a special ministry reflection time began, during which many members and friends shared their thoughts about the Daytons’ impact on their lives. The deacons read several letters of appreciation and congratulations from missionaries, friends, and GARBC national representative John Greening. A PowerPoint presentation, reviewing the Dayton’s years at UBC, gave attendees a sense of how God has used them over the past 27 years.
The afternoon ended with a cake and punch reception. All of the UBC family praise the Lord for the Dayton’s ministry in their lives for so many years and wishes them well as they transition into “regular” church members.
